Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure game, has grown in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha/8 begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of wagering follows in which gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. A further sequence of betting ensues. After all the players have in turn called or dropped out, a further card is flipped on the turn. a further round of betting follows and then the river card is revealed. The players will need to put together the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many players often get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the very same notion in just about every poker game.

A lower hand is more complex, but really opens up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be put together, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no low hand available, the high hand takes the complete pot.

Although it seems complex at first, after a couple of hands you will be able to pick up on the base nuances of the game easily enough. Since you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better offers an overwhelming array of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have many players battling for the high hand, along with several shooting for the low hand. If you love a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to play Omaha hi lo.
