Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complex but popular poker games. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible variation, has increased in popularity so rapidly.
Omaha/8 begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of wagering follows in which gamblers can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. Another round of wagering ensues. After all the players have either called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of betting ensues at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will have to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is the point where a few entrants often get flustered. Unlike Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player must use precisely 3 cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the best hand out of every player’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical approach in nearly all poker games.
A low hand is more complex, but certainly opens up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no lower hand available, the higher hand takes the entire pot.
It may seem complicated at the start, following a few hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the fundamental nuances of play with ease. Since you have individuals wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha Hi-Lo offers an overwhelming array of betting choices and owing to the fact that you have several individuals battling for the high, and a few shooting for the low. If you enjoy a game with a lot of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to play Omaha/8.
